This painting was created for the exhibition Telling the City, organized as part of the events celebrating the 700th anniversary of Vilnius. The exhibition showcased the work of 20 acclaimed illustrators from four countries—Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, and Poland. Its aim was to bring the city to the forefront and highlight its importance in children’s book illustration. Each artist presented their own perspective on urban spaces. My painting, The Joy of Winter, offers an ironic take on winter in the city, which is often far from white and beautiful, yet children always find ways to enjoy it.
